That men
and women are different isn’t a shock, it’s just a fact. But what about their
writing skills and their way of thinking? I was wondering if there is a
difference between male authors and female authors too? I am sure you also want
to know the differences between men and women. So don’t waste any of your time
and just read the article, to get rid of all the arguments about this subject.
First, I want to share some facts about the
differences between men and women in general. When we compare the brains of men
and women, we see that men have a larger brain, but it is less active. See, I just
knew women are smarter! The brain of a woman never gets any rest because women
are continuously alert. Yes, I think they are right, because if I look at
myself, my brain is always thinking and thinking and I always ask myself why we
don’t have an off button? It would be so nice to have a button to shut
everything down. But for now back to the subject. The difference between a male
and female brain tells us something about the behavior of these two sexes.
If we look to the verbal behavior, we already
see at a young age that girls learn faster than boys based on their speaking kills.
When they get older, we see that women have a larger vocabulary than men and
even their grammar is better. Besides that, men can say what they think without
telling such long stories like women do. However, I think that women use more
words to bring something - how do I say it right - friendlier? We think twice
before we say something and I think that is the reason why us women use more
words. The resources also talk about non-verbal behavior. Men would have a
better spatial insight.
What about
the differences between the writing skills of men and women? I already said
that men are more to the point and that women use more words. In books we see this
difference very clear. Books written by female authors contain more detail and
they are more personal, while books written by men are more to the point and more
general. Interesting is that male authors are more reviewed than female
authors. Although I don’t know why, it’s not that female authors are bad
writers, because we have amazing female writers all over the world. And many
resources say that there are no more male writers than female writers.
If we look at male and female thriller authors we do see a point. Thrillers are the most read genre of the Netherlands and they go worldwide. A few years ago, most of the thriller authors where male. However since the last couple of years, female thriller authors become more successful. Marcel van Driel has a strong opinion about female thriller authors. He thinks that female authors can’t write thrillers. His argument for this statement is the nomination of ‘De Gouden Strop’. From the eleven nominated titles, there was only one title written by female author. I think it is weak just to look at the nominated titles. I am a woman and I love the female thriller authors like Saskia Noort and Simone van der Vlugt. So I think it is a personal statement.
After all
my research about the differences between men and women I would say that men
and women are two unique sexes. There are many differences between men and
women when we look at the brain, the verbal and non-verbal behavior. But if we
look at their writing skills, I can conclude that the differences are minimal. Ok,
female authors write more in detail and use more difficult words, but larger
differences than that are hard to find.
